Every Wattleview breeding dog is thoroughly health tested before being included in our program. We share our results openly because transparency is fundamental to responsible breeding.
Why We Test
Health testing is the cornerstone of responsible breeding. Without testing, there is no way to know whether a dog carries genes that may cause heritable disease in their offspring.
We test every breeding dog with the most comprehensive protocols available to give our puppies the healthiest possible start.
All Wattleview breeding dogs undergo Orivet Full Breed Profile genetic screening, PennHIP hip evaluation, and OFA elbow assessment.
Orivet Genetic Screening
Orivet’s Full Breed Profile tests for all known genetic diseases relevant to the Australian Cobberdog, as well as providing a DNA profile and trait analysis for coat type and colour. Every breeding dog is tested before their first breeding, with results shared transparently on their profile page.
Hip and elbow dysplasia are among the most common orthopaedic conditions in dogs. PennHIP is the gold standard for hip evaluation, measuring hip laxity and comparing it against the breed average. OFA elbow evaluation screens for elbow dysplasia.
We only breed dogs whose hip and elbow scores meet our minimum standards for the breed.
