We welcome international families. Here’s an honest overview of the process, requirements, and what to expect.
We have placed Wattleview puppies with families outside Australia and understand the additional complexity involved. If you’re located internationally and wondering whether an Australian Cobberdog from Wattleview is possible, the answer is yes – but it requires early planning, patience, and an understanding of the documentation involved.
Requirements vary significantly between destination countries. What follows is a general overview. We strongly recommend contacting us for specifics early in the process.
All dogs exported from Australia must comply with the requirements of the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). Export requirements include:
Import requirements vary greatly between countries. Below is a general overview of common requirements for popular destination countries. Always verify with your national authority and a registered import agent as requirements change.
| Country | Key Requirements | Quarantine? |
|---|---|---|
| New Zealand | Microchip, health cert, treatment for ticks & tapeworm, import permit. NZ MPI approval required. | 10 days managed isolation at owner's cost |
| United Kingdom | Microchip, rabies vaccination, 21-day wait post-vaccination, rabies titre test (30-day result wait), tapeworm treatment within 5 days of travel, AHC health certificate. | None if requirements met — direct entry |
| USA | Microchip, current rabies vaccination, USDA-endorsed health certificate, CDC import requirements. | None for most states, subject to CDC rules |
| Canada | Microchip, rabies vaccination, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) health certificate. | None for healthy vaccinated dogs |
| Singapore | Microchip, rabies vaccination & titre test, import permit from AVS, accredited vet certificate. | Up to 10 days at approved facility |
| UAE / Gulf states | Microchip, rabies vaccination, health certificate endorsed by DAFF and destination authority. Requirements vary by emirate. | Varies by country |
Requirements are subject to change. Always verify with your country's biosecurity authority and a registered import/export agent before committing.
International placements require significantly more lead time than domestic ones. Requirements such as rabies titre tests (UK, Singapore) involve waiting periods of weeks to months after vaccination before the puppy is eligible to travel. For some countries, the process can take 3–6 months from the time you are allocated a puppy.
We strongly recommend beginning the research process before you are allocated a puppy, so you are ready to initiate the export and import processes as soon as possible after allocation at week 7.
We strongly recommend engaging a licensed Australian pet export agent. They will manage the DAFF export permit, coordinate with airlines (most international routes require pet cargo rather than in-cabin travel), and liaise with the import agent at the destination. We will assist you with this process.
Reputable Australian export agents include Dogtainers, Jetpets, and Animal Road. These organisations are familiar with all major destination country requirements and can provide a detailed checklist and cost estimate based on your specific destination.
Export agent fees, airline freight costs, destination quarantine costs, and import agent fees are additional to the puppy purchase price and vary significantly by destination.
Get in touch early and we’ll talk you through the process.
